Zambia’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Gilbert Phiri, has formally served UK-based social media influencer Lillian Mutambo with court documents via DHL, compelling her to respond to allegations of defamation.
Legal assistant Misozi Phiri, representing PNP Advocates, confirmed that the writ of summons, statement of claim, affidavits and injunction papers were delivered on February 2 and 4, 2026—setting the stage for a courtroom confrontation.
The dispute stems from posts allegedly published on October 7, 2025, on Mutambo’s Facebook page, Facebook account Lily Mutamz.

In the posts, she accused the DPP of deliberately reducing the murder charge of Maria Zaloumis, popularly known as Zed Farmer, to manslaughter and granting her bail in the case involving the death of 17-year-old Enock Simfukwe.
She further labelled Phiri “a bully,” “a narcissist,” and “corrupt.” The posts reportedly reached more than 1,500 viewers and were widely shared.
Phiri’s legal team argued that the statements were false, malicious and intended to injure his reputation. They stated that the remarks exposed him to public ridicule and undermined public confidence in his office as DPP.
After a demand letter requesting a retraction and apology allegedly went unanswered, Phiri escalated the matter—filing for damages and seeking an injunction to restrain Mutambo from issuing further defamatory statements.
The defamation suit asks the court to declare the posts false, compel Mutambo to issue a public apology and award general, aggravated and exemplary damages.
An interim hearing was scheduled for February 12, 2026, before Justice Mwila Kombe.
