POLICE in Lusaka have apprehended a male suspect who was on the wanted list for multiple criminal offences, including burglary, theft, and assault occasioning bodily harm.
In a statement, police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the suspect, identified as Prince Kaumba, commonly known as Junior and an ex-convict, was apprehended on February 20, 2026, around 16:00 hours in Garden Compound, Lusaka, following a tip-off from members of the public.
Mr Chilabi said several residents of Garden Compound and neighbouring communities had previously lodged complaints against the suspect in relation to earlier offences.
He said the suspect is currently in police custody pending formal charges.
“The Zambia Police Service appeals to anyone who may have fallen victim to the suspect to come forward for identification. Members of the public are encouraged to report to Emmasdale Police Station to assist with ongoing investigations and any additional charges arising from previous complaints,” he said.

POLICE have cautioned members of the public against attacking police officers, stating that an attack on an officer is an attack on the Zambian people.
In a statement, police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said when officers carry out lawful duties, they act on behalf of the State and the people of Zambia.
“Therefore, any attack on a police officer while performing official duties is not only an attack on the officer but also an attack on the people of Zambia and the constitutional order of the country,” he said.
Mr Chilabi said police have noted with concern an incident that occurred on February 18, 2026, in Ndola, where a police officer was assaulted by a motorist while performing routine traffic management duties.
He said police strongly condemn the unlawful act, adding that officers derive their authority from the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia. Article 193(2) establishes the Zambia Police Service and mandates it to maintain law and order, protect life and property, and prevent and detect crime.
Mr Chilabi said the law provides safeguards to ensure officers carry out their responsibilities without interference, noting that Article 143(1)(f) of the Constitution places a duty on every citizen to cooperate with law enforcement officers in maintaining law and order.
“Section 21(1) and (2) of the Zambia Police Act, Chapter 107 of the Laws of Zambia, mandates the Zambia Police Service to regulate and control traffic. It is an offence to oppose or disobey a lawful order issued by a police officer. Additionally, assaulting or obstructing a police officer in the execution of lawful duties is an offence under Section 250(b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, and attracts imprisonment of up to five years upon conviction,” he said.
Mr Chilabi said while police acknowledge that members of the public may have concerns regarding police conduct, violence—whether by a police officer or a member of the public—is unacceptable and has no place in society.
He said the Service has established internal complaint mechanisms through which citizens can lodge grievances.
“Oversight bodies such as the Police Public Complaints Commission are also available to receive and address complaints in a lawful and structured manner. Members of the public are encouraged to follow these procedures when raising concerns,” he said.

A violent motorist has been arrested following a physical confrontation with a traffic police officer, an incident captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media.
In the trending clip, a traffic officer in police uniform and a reflective jacket is seen tussling with a motorist dressed in white and black trousers.
The motorist is observed throwing punches and kicks at the officer, who retaliates while holding documents in his right hand, which he later discards amid the scuffle.
At one point, the officer appears to be overpowered and falls, landing on his lower back against a concrete hedge as the motorist continues to punch him, while passers-by watch in apparent shock.
The motorist has since been arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer.
Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Mwaala Yuyi identified the officer as Constable George Ilyamupu of Peter Singongo Police Camp, based at Hillcrest Police Post.
He said the constable lodged a complaint against Emmanuel Njovu, 32, the motorist who allegedly assaulted him while on duty.
“The complainant sustained general body pains, as fists and kicks are alleged to have been used to inflict the injuries,” Mr Yuyi said.
He explained that on February 18, 2026, at around 10:00 hours, the officer was on duty along the Ndola–Kitwe Road when he noticed a Toyota Ractis, registration number BCG 4472, fail to obey traffic signs.
“The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was instructed to park off the road,” Mr Yuyi said.
“After parking, the driver became unruly, accusing the officer of wasting his time, claiming he was rushing to where he works as a clinical officer,” he added.
Mr Yuyi said that when the driver was challenged to park the vehicle at Hillcrest Police Post, he turned violent and assaulted the officer, who was later rescued by members of the public.
“A docket has been opened, the suspect Emmanuel Njovu, aged 32, has been arrested, and the Toyota Ractis, registration number BCG 4472, has been impounded,” Mr Yuyi said.

POLICE in Lusaka have launched a manhunt for a 34-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his 30-year-old wife in unclear circumstances before fleeing with their child.
On February 16, this year, Fredrick Zulu of Chalala allegedly unlawfully wounded his wife by stabbing her in the abdomen around 22:00 hours.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said that upon receiving the report, officers promptly responded to the scene and, with the help of neighbours, rushed the victim to Chilenje Level One Hospital.
Mr Chilabi said the victim is currently receiving medical attention and her condition is reported to be stable.
He said Mr Zulu fled the scene with their two-year-old daughter.
“The motive behind the incident has not yet been established. Investigations into the matter are ongoing,” Mr Chilabi said.
He said police are appealing to members of the public to assist in locating the suspect.
“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect or the child is urged to contact the nearest police station or call the police emergency hotline on 9010. Public cooperation is vital in ensuring the safety of the child and the apprehension of the suspect,” Mr Chilabi said.
