Luanshya Municipal Council says three people have died on the spot in Luanshya’s Kapesa area after the driver of an over-speeding vehicle lost control, causing the car to overturn off the Luanshya–Masangano Road and hit two pedestrians. One of the pedestrians died immediately.
Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Gideon Thole, said in a statement on Tuesday that the Luanshya Municipal Council Fire and Rescue Brigade rushed to the scene of the accident along the busy Luanshya–Masangano Road, a newly rehabilitated Ndola City bypass route for motorists heading to Kitwe, North-Western Province and beyond.
“According [to] Luanshya Municipal Council Chief Fire Officer Happy Sichali, the rescue crew found five people trapped in a white Toyota Sienta, registration number ATC 414, which was being driven by 40-year-old male Nshimbani Golden Kandela, who died on the spot,” Thole said.

According to the fire brigade, the accident occurred around 07:23 hours in the morning. The vehicle was carrying five passengers, two of whom died on the spot, along with a pedestrian who was struck as the car overturned.
“Three injured passengers, who were among those extracted from the mangled vehicle, which was coming from Kitwe and heading toward the Kapiri Mposhi–Kabwe direction, were rescued by the Fire Brigade crew, which also rushed them together with an injured pedestrian to Thompson District Hospital in Luanshya, where they have been admitted,” he stated.
