PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is unhappy with men who defile little children and today, he did not mince his words in condemning the criminality.
Mr Hichilema, an advocate of girl child education, wondered why some men do not go for women their age but instead take their advances to children.
The President, reacting to Sista D’s ever-fresh Vitendeni Song performed during International Women’s Day, concurred with the artistes’ denunciation of child pedophiles in her lyrics.
In the Vitendeni song released around 2002, Sista D condemns defilement, wondering why old men go after young girls-further calling for castration.
“You heard the song from Sista D there, how can you find love in a child, in your own child, then you are a coward.
“Why don’t you approach mature women and propose love properly, why do you go for young people,” a visibly concerned Mr Hichilema said.
He also spoke against early child pregnancies, urging men to take responsibility and prevent such.
He later posted on his Face page page, where he honoured woman on this day on which the female gender is celebrated globally.
“Today we joined the global community in commemorating an important day on our calendar, International Women’s Day.
We honour the contributions of women to equality, justice and development, and celebrate their resilience, achievements and leadership,” Mr Hichilema said .
The President said: ” We must continue to build a society in which every girl can thrives and every woman’s voice is heard, for when we uplift our women, we uplift the nation,”.
Woman across the country took park in March pasts to commemorate International Woman’s Day.
The venue for the main event in Lusaka was the showgrounds, where Mr Hichilema was guest of honour.

Government to evacuate Zambian family of five from Iraq’s Kurdistan region

Government is currently making arrangements to evacuate a Zambian family of five residing in the Kurdistan region, an autonomous region of Iraq.
This follows an escalation of military activity in parts of the Middle East, including aerial and missile exchanges affecting several countries in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, has told Parliament that, in light of the deteriorating security environment, arrangements have been initiated through the Mission in Cairo to facilitate the family’s evacuation.
He said efforts are also ongoing to ascertain the whereabouts and status of a Zambian national reported to be resident in Iran.
Mr Haimbe, however, said Government has not received any reports, verified or otherwise, of injury or loss of life involving any Zambian national as a result of the ongoing hostilities in the region.
“This position is based on confirmed updates from our Missions in Egypt, Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. However, the situation remains fluid,” he said.
He said some Zambians have encountered temporary travel disruptions arising from precautionary airspace closures and heightened security measures.
The Minister said that in response, Zambian missions have remained fully engaged on the ground, providing timely guidance, facilitating consular support and coordinating necessary assistance to ensure the safety and welfare of Zambian nationals where required.
“Through coordinated engagement between our Missions in Cairo and Ankara, preparations are underway to facilitate safe transit through the nearest viable corridor, subject to prevailing security assessments. I wish to assure this House that the matter is being handled with the utmost urgency and due sensitivity,” Mr Haimbe said.
He said the affected Zambian nationals are resident across several countries within the affected regions, including those in academic study, professional practice, private sector employment and service within the diplomatic corps.
The Minister said the Government of the United Arab Emirates is providing support and temporary accommodation to stranded passengers, which has helped ease the impact of recent travel disruptions.
“In response to the evolving security environment, the Ministry issued a Travel and Security Advisory to all Zambian nationals residing in or visiting the Gulf region,” Mr Haimbe said.
He said nationals have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid areas near military installations or key government infrastructure, and stay indoors while utilising designated protected spaces when alerts are issued.
Mr Haimbe said affected Zambians have also been advised to strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities, avoid non-essential travel to affected areas and maintain contact with the nearest Zambian Mission.
He said Government will continue to monitor the situation closely and will issue further guidance to the general public should the need arise, adding that Zambia is a peace-loving and non-aligned nation.
“Therefore, we do not take sides in conflicts of this nature. Our consistent position is guided by the principles of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful settlement of disputes and adherence to the United Nations Charter and international law,” he said.

PARAMOUNT Chief Mpezeni has criticised what he termed as the outdated Tonse Alliance presidential candidature, describing it as ineffective in delivering meaningful development.
Speaking when the leader of the Movement for Good Governance and Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu paid a courtesy call on him at Laweni Palace, the traditional leader said the current Tonse leadership under Brian Mundubile is not capable of delivering development.
Chief Mpezeni said Mr Mundubile served in the previous government, which he said failed to provide the much-needed development for citizens. He added that Zambia requires young and fresh leadership to effectively compete with the current administration.
“Citizens have many questions for the Tonse Alliance leadership on the ground. Mr Mundubile should clearly outline what he intends to do, especially when many projects have already been implemented through the Constituency Development Fund.
“Tonse Alliance should promote younger leaders into key positions rather than relying on individuals who had previously failed to deliver,” he said.
And Nkana Member of Parliament Mr Mpundu said the United Party for National Development (UPND) should not be overly excited about Paramount Chief Mpezeni endorsing the party, stating that it is normal for traditional leaders to work with the government of the day.
Mr Mpundu said if the government changes in August, the paramount chief will still be expected to make the same statement and work with the next government as well.
He added that the chief’s statement suggesting he will support Hakainde Hichilema 100 percent is not out of the ordinary.
“It is the duty of those in authority, including public servants and traditional leaders, to work with the government of the day. For me, therefore, there is nothing unusual about such a statement. I understand that it may excite some people who may interpret it to mean that the entire Eastern Province will now support HH, but that is not necessarily the case.
“The people under the leadership of the paramount chief have their own independent minds and will make their own decisions. One should read beyond the words of the paramount chief. When he says he will work with the President, or rather the government of the day, it does not mean that votes will automatically go to that government. It is simply his duty and responsibility to work with whichever government is in power at that particular time,” Mr Mpundu said.

Fred M’membe has been arrested and formally charged with harassment and humiliation of the President.
The Socialist Party president is alleged to have made the remarks on February 26, 2026, in Lusaka during a radio programme on Kwithu FM, which was simultaneously streamed live on a Facebook page known as “Dr. M’membe”.
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the statements were allegedly vulgar and intended to humiliate the President of the Republic of Zambia and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force, Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Chilabi said Dr M’membe remains in custody and is expected to appear in court soon.
“While the Zambia Police Service respects the constitutional right to freedom of expression, the Service wishes to remind members of the public that this right is subject to limitations, particularly where issues of public morality and the rights and reputations of others are concerned,” he said.
Mr Chilabi said police are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all citizens comply with the laws of the Republic of Zambia.
“Further updates will be provided as the matter progresses,” he said.
