AS youths celebrate their day today, President has written a letter to them, emphasizing his Government’s resolve to improve their welfare and ensuring that they are part of the governance system.
“Dear Zambian Youth, we are writing to you today, 12th March 2026, to coincide with the commemoration of Youth Day. This year’s theme for the commemoration is “Rise & Soar.”
“Wherever we travel in this country, we find young Zambians at the markets, the workshops, the college halls, the small businesses carved out of nothing.
“Building something real in conditions that would have stopped many others. Every time we see it, something in us is renewed. Our belief in you as leaders of today, and not just tomorrow, is reaffirmed,” Mr Hichilema writes.
He reminds the young people that “Today is your day, and we want to speak plainly.”
“Not in the language of a ceremony, but as Zambians who carry, every day, a profound sense of what this country owes its young people, and of how much you have already given back to it without being asked.”
The President further writes that the last four years have demanded a great deal from young Zambians.
“Some of you finished school into a country that was still finding its way. Some of you started businesses and chased ideas in conditions that were not of your making. You showed up anyway. You kept building anyway. That is not a small thing. That is, in fact, everything.”
Mr Hichilema assures that better days are coming for young people.
“Zambia stands proud in the world today. Investors who had written us off are returning. The Kwacha has stabilised. The world is lending us its confidence again, and we are earning it,” he writes.
“These are not small things. They are the floor we have laid together so that the next generation of Zambian builders, entrepreneurs and leaders can go further and faster than any generation before them. That generation is you. It has always been you.”
He also shares that he understands their impatience for better days.
“Your impatience is not a problem. It is the correct response to a country that still has too much unfinished business. Your ambition is not arrogance. It is exactly what Zambia needs more of. And the refusal to accept less than this country can become, that is not something to apologise for. That is the deepest form of patriotism we know.”
Mr Hichilema tells the young people that the next few years belong to them more than to anyone.
“The choices we make together, about the kind of economy we build, the leaders we trust, the future we are prepared to work for, will echo for a decade and beyond.
“We want you to carry that mantle, not because it should weigh on you, but because you are strong enough, and because Zambia has been waiting a long time for a generation ready to carry it.”
As his Government delivers for the young people, the President has a request.
“We are asking for your hands. Build. Create. Lead. Hold us to account when we fall short, because that too is an act of love for this country.”
Mr Hichilema concludes that Zambia’s greatest harvest is still ahead of us.
“We see it every day in the faces of our young people. On our part, we will deliver for you, because we care for you. Happy Youth Day.”

Morgan Ng’ona remains expelled by Miles Sampa?

LUSAKA High Court Judge Conceptor Zulu has dismissed a case in which Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Morgan Ng’ona was among others, challenging his expulsion from PF by faction president Miles Sampa.
But Mr Ng’ona, who was expelled by Mr Sampa, who had also removed faction PF party president Robert Chabinga, has gone to the Court of Appeal to challenge the dismissal of his lawsuit.
In her decision, the Judge threw out the case on grounds that the plaintiff, Mr Ng’ona, failed to prosecute it for an extended period of about four months.
Judge Ng’ona dismissed the case for want of prosecution because Mr Ng’ona never showed any vigilance in prosecuting the case and disregarded court orders for directions on how the case was to be heard.
“I find that the failure to comply with order for directions and therefore, stalling the progress of the matter for a period of four months can rise a substantial risk of not having a fair trial of the issues in this action and is prejudicial to the proper administration of justice.
“…this matter is dismissed in its entirety for want of prosecution. This applies to both the plaintiff’s claim and the defendant’s counter claim,” Judge Zulu said.
In this case, Mr Ng’ona was challenging Mr Sampa’s decision, in his capacity as PF president, to remove him from the party secretary general position.
He was also challenging the Matero PF lawmaker’s decision to dissolve the Central Committee was illegal as he did not possess such powers to do so.
But when the case started and the court set March 21, 2024 for status conference, Mr Ng’ona never attended and also failed to comply with the court’s orders for directions, leading to stalling of the case.
It is on this basis that Mr Sampa urged the court to dismiss Mr Ng’ona’s case for his failure to follow court directions and delaying the case.
But latest court document show that Mr Ng’ona has rushed to the Court of Appeal to challenge Judge Zulu’s decision to dismiss the case, contending that the court erred in law and fact.
He contends that the Judge misdirected herself when she dismissed the matter for want of prosecution on an application made by Mr Sampa, without making findings on whether his delay in prosecution would give rise to substantial risk that is capable of endangering a fair trial. As the PF leadership wrangles continue, there is less than six months before the general elections.

BARELY a week after being released from prison, former Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu has announced that he will contest the Lusaka Central parliamentary seat currently held by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe.
Mr Zulu, who lost the Lumezi seat after being jailed last May, told Crown Television that one of the reasons he wants to contest the Lusaka Central seat is to teach the incumbent a “political lesson”.
“It’s a confirmation that I will be vying for the Lusaka Central seat to challenge Mulambo Haimbe in particular, for so many reasons I cannot explain,” the outspoken 38-year-old said.
With less than six months before the general elections, Mr Zulu said he will soon launch his campaigns as he seeks to wrestle the seat from Mr Haimbe, a State Counsel.
“I will be launching my campaign for Lusaka Central in the next few days because Lumezi gave it to me. I have never lost an election. They grabbed it from me, so now I want to go for Mulambo Haimbe and teach him politics,” Mr Zulu said.
In 2021, Mr Zulu, who stood as an independent candidate in Lumezi, won the seat with 11,929 votes against his closest rival, Patriotic Front’s Pilila Jere, who garnered 10,471 votes, while the United Party for National Development’s Macdonald Phiri came third with 4,386 votes.
Mr Zulu was released from jail on Saturday after serving an 18-month prison sentence for seditious practices.
He had concurrently served a one-year jail term for libel and another nine-month suspended sentence, also for seditious practices.
Meanwhile, Balwin Phiri, popularly known as BJ, has also announced his intention to stand as an independent candidate for the Lusaka Central Constituency in the forthcoming general elections.
Mr Phiri said Lusaka Central deserves committed leadership that listens, unites and works tirelessly for the development and well-being of the people.
“I step forward with a vision of progress, accountability and inclusive growth for our constituency, guided by the interests of the people above all else.
“As an independent candidate, my commitment is to serve the people of Lusaka Central with integrity, fairness and a voice that represents the community without fear or favour,” he said.
Mr Phiri said that by working with residents, he will help build a stronger community, expand opportunities for the youth, support local businesses and ensure that the voices of residents are effectively represented.
“I humbly ask for your support, guidance and prayers as we embark on this journey together,” he said.

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is unhappy with men who defile little children and today, he did not mince his words in condemning the criminality.
Mr Hichilema, an advocate of girl child education, wondered why some men do not go for women their age but instead take their advances to children.
The President, reacting to Sista D’s ever-fresh Vitendeni Song performed during International Women’s Day, concurred with the artistes’ denunciation of child pedophiles in her lyrics.
In the Vitendeni song released around 2002, Sista D condemns defilement, wondering why old men go after young girls-further calling for castration.
“You heard the song from Sista D there, how can you find love in a child, in your own child, then you are a coward.
“Why don’t you approach mature women and propose love properly, why do you go for young people,” a visibly concerned Mr Hichilema said.
He also spoke against early child pregnancies, urging men to take responsibility and prevent such.
He later posted on his Face page page, where he honoured woman on this day on which the female gender is celebrated globally.
“Today we joined the global community in commemorating an important day on our calendar, International Women’s Day.
We honour the contributions of women to equality, justice and development, and celebrate their resilience, achievements and leadership,” Mr Hichilema said .
The President said: ” We must continue to build a society in which every girl can thrives and every woman’s voice is heard, for when we uplift our women, we uplift the nation,”.
Woman across the country took park in March pasts to commemorate International Woman’s Day.
The venue for the main event in Lusaka was the showgrounds, where Mr Hichilema was guest of honour.
