The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has accused the ruling United Party for National Development of “cowardice” after Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa called for the summoning of Tonse Alliance leader, Brian Mundubile m, over allegations raised in an audio said to involve Chishimba Kambwili.
In a statement on Wednesday, FDD spokesperson, Anthony Chibuye, said Mweetwa’s remarks were made “in bad faith” and reflected fear of Mundubile’s growing political influence.
“It is folly that the Honourable Minister of Information is trying to rewrite the same script Zambians have seen before, when the PF accused President Hakainde Hichilema of crimes purportedly committed during privatization,” Chibuye said.

He questioned why the UPND had not previously moved against Mundubile.
“Why did the UPND not arrest President Mundubile in the four years and seven months they have been in government, and why now?” he asked.
Chibuye criticised what he called an “inept regime” that only reacts when “a noisy citizen makes unfounded claims.”
He urged Zambians not to be misled, saying Mundubile had only one life and should not be targeted for political reasons.
“We the people of Zambia know that a corporate body such as a company is distinct from its members. As FDD, we don’t want to question the competence of the Minister of Information, who is a lawyer,” he said, adding it was surprising that a legal professional could issue such remarks “for political expedience.”
He accused the UPND of undermining democracy and “seeking someone to devour.”
