WITH an increase in youths wishing to seek leadership positions ahead of the 2026 general elections, former Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Dora Siliya has some advise.
Dr Siliya has urged youths in the country to be bold as they seek for opportunities but should also be respectful.
The former Petauke lawmaker said young people should also be prepared to take up opportunities.
“Remember, chance favours the prepared,” the former Chief Government spokesperson said in a message to youths who celebrated their day on Thursday.
“Be BOLD but respectful, Be AGGRESSIVE but kind, Be INTENTIONAL and smart,” Dr Siliya said..
The former cabinet minister, who is also a lecturer, further urged the young people to be “youthful” and “healthy”.
Dr Siliya, a development economist, also called on young people to continue being ambitious and also be competent in their area of interest.
She also spoke against the “entitlement attitude” to taking up leadership positions by some young people, saying what is an entitlement is giving them opportunities.
“Young people are not entitled to leadership, but they are entitled to opportunity, including the ability to learn how to lead,” Dr Siliya, a veteran broadcaster who first joined ZNBC at a tender age of 18, said.

AN ex convict, linked to a series of robberies, died after losing consciousness in Lusaka Central Business District where he led police to places were he had been stealing people’s phones.
This is in connection to police investigations into a series of robberies in Chilenje and surrounding areas following the arrest and subsequent death of a suspect linked to the crimes.
On March 4, 2026, around 21:30, Chilenje Police Station received a report from Estella Mwape aged 20, to the effect that around 19:30, while walking near the Old State House area, she was attacked by a male suspect.
Ms Mwape said the aggressor hit her on the head with an object and stole her cellphone.
She sustained cuts and swelling to her face and was referred to Chilenje Level One Hospital for medical treatment.
Police public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi said in a statement that during the incident, Mwape raised an alarm.
“Members of the public pursued the suspect, apprehended him, and inflicted injuries on him before handing him over to the police.
“He was found in possession of two cellphones: one belonging to Mwape and another believed to have been stolen during a separate robbery,” Mr Chilabi said.
The suspect, who initially identified himself as Victor Lubasi 39, admitted to attacking Teresa Kasonde Lupiya ,38, on March 3, 2026, causing serious injuries, including a laceration to her ear.
“Further investigations established his true identity as Collins Kasiye Soma 39, an ex-convict.
“He has been linked to seven robberies in Chilenje and Libala between December 2025 and March 2026,” Mr Chilabi said.
“The suspect reportedly targeted pedestrians, particularly women, in the evenings, stealing phones, cash, and other personal belongings, often causing serious injuries.
During the investigation, the suspect led police to multiple crime scenes and demonstrated how he carried out the attacks, which involved seven female victims at different dates and locations.
“On March 6, 2026, while voluntarily leading police officers to recover stolen phones in the Central Business District, the suspect suddenly lost consciousness.
“He was rushed to Sikanze Police Hospital and later referred to University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The body is currently at the UTH Mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination and for mal identification. Investigations into the matter remain ongoing”

ONE person has died while his colleague is battling for his life in the intensive care unit at Nchanga North General Hospital in Chingola after the two were shot at close range following a fight that erupted after a drinking spree.
The deceased, Gift Chilambe, and his friend Francis Mbale, who sustained serious injuries, were involved in a scuffle with three unidentified men during which both were shot.
Prior to the shooting, Mbale is reported to have picked a quarrel with the three assailants.
The altercation later escalated, prompting one of the suspects to produce a pistol and shoot Chilambe, who had joined the fight.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi confirmed the incident in a statement.
“Mbale picked a quarrel with the three male persons, where he got a bottle of beer, broke it and started insulting them. In the process, one of them retrieved a pistol from his waist bag and shot Chilambe,” Mr Yuyi said.
“While Mbale was still fighting one of the three men, the suspect who was armed came and shot at him. The three men then fled the scene,” he added.
Chilambe, 30, sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, while Mbale, 29, sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
Mr Yuyi said the two were rushed to Nchanga North General Hospital, where Chilambe was pronounced dead.
He said Mbale, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, is currently admitted to the intensive care unit.
Mr Yuyi said no arrests have been made so far, and the suspects are still at large.

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged two more officials from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Sustainable Livestock Infrastructure Management Project (SLIMP).
Those arrested are Succeed Mubanga, Director of Policy, Planning and Information, and Chanda Mulenga, a Stores Officer.
ACC Acting Head of Corporate Communications Chilufya Chisanga said the arrests follow a comprehensive investigation into the alleged misappropriation of part of the US$10 million project funds.
Ms Chisanga said the funds, which were intended for national livestock infrastructure development, were allegedly diverted through a complex web of illicit transactions and asset acquisitions.
She said Mr Mubanga, 49, has been charged with two counts of possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and two counts of concealment of property, contrary to the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.
“The suspected proceeds of crime are estimated at K11.1 million and include a motor vehicle, investments in Government bonds and a house,” Ms Chisanga said.
She further said Ms Mulenga, 33, has been charged with one count of possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and two counts of concealment of property, also contrary to the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.
Ms Chisanga said the suspected properties linked to Ms Mulenga include a modern house located in Kasama District.
“The arrest of Mr Mubanga and Ms Mulenga brings the total number of individuals arrested in connection with the SLIMP syndicate to nine,” she said.
She added that the two suspects have since been released on bond and are expected to appear in court soon.
Ms Chisanga said the Commission has also moved to restrict and seize multiple assets linked to the case.
