Newcastle United injected renewed momentum into their push for European football with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Anthony Gordon’s 18th-minute strike proved decisive, capping a textbook away display from Eddie Howe’s side and securing three potentially crucial points in the race for continental qualification.
The breakthrough came when Tino Livramento threaded a superb pass through the Chelsea back line, sending Joe Willockin on goal. Willock unselfishly squared the ball for Gordon, who tapped home the winner.

In a match reported by Sky Sports, the victory offered the perfect lift ahead of Newcastle’s midweek trip to Barcelona, and it sends Howe’s men up to ninth — now just six points behind fifth-placed Chelsea with eight matches remaining.
Chelsea dominated possession for long spells but struggled to penetrate Newcastle’s disciplined defensive structure. Substitute Liam Delap squandered a clear opening before Reece James rattled the post with a late free-kick, compounding a difficult week for the Blues.
It was also a missed opportunity for Liam Rosenior’s side, who had suffered a 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, effectively ending their Champions League aspirations.
A win here would have moved them into third, but they lacked the urgency required to trouble Newcastle and ultimately slipped to an eighth league defeat of the season.
