ZCCM-IH, PlanetGold sign MoU to support mercury-free gold mining


ZCCM-IH has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the PlanetGold Zambia Project to support gold offtake from mercury-free sites. The PlanetGold Zambia Project is a global initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and executed by the Artisanal Gold Council in partnership with the Zambian government through the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). The project is leading efforts to promote mercury-free technologies and responsible gold mining practices in Zambia. It is designed to reduce and eliminate the use of mercury in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector through a holistic, multi-sectoral, integrated formalisation approach.
