… Respect The Democratic Rights Of The Supporting Brian Mundubile

The People of Western Province have been democratic when it comes to Zambian Politics.
In 1991, they made MMD win the Provincial Votes but in 2001, they switched to UPND and made Mazoka of the UPND win Provincial votes. However, in 2006, the UPND Leadership after the demise of Mazoka, turned against Lozis by telling them off to form their own party. This was after some Lozis thought Sakwiba Sikota could also be suported by Tongas just as Mazoka was supported by Lozis.
When that failed, the People of Western Province went back to MMD, some formed ULP while others eventually formed ADD.
Therefore, in the last 25 years, the People of Western Province produced Members of Parliament from MMD, UPND, Independents, ULP, ADD and PF. This is how democratic the people of Western Province have been.
This political history of Western Province is different to that of Southen Province. In Southen Province, they have been voting only for UPND, no independents, no any other party got even MPs from there. Southern Province has been a One Party State for UPND. It reached a point where other parties saw no need of fielding candidates there, thus we have many people going unopposed in Tongaland..
The UPND has managed to put the spirit of hostility in Tongas that they see anybody supporting other parties as enemies. This spirit is slowly coming to Western Province because UPND has become strong here too. We need to reject this, see how Hon. Charles Milupi spoke against Hon. Sinyinda, as if Hon. Sinyinda committed a serious crime, just endorsing President Mundubile and reminding the UPND of their promises on construction of King Lewanika University and Mongu Stadium.
This is the reason we say, Western Province is not an extention of Southern Province. Why is the endorsing of Brian Mundubile by Dr Akashambatwa and Hon. Sinyinda being criminalised as if its not their democratic right?
Where are the restored values and respect for human rights being preached by the UPND if its people continue to insult and humiliate old people like Dr Akashambatwa and Hon. Sinyinda for merely expressing their democratic right?
Dr Akashambatwa is from the royal family and served as our Mulena at Naliele Chiefdom representing the Litunga in Kaoma, Lwampa and Nkeyema. It therefore, pained him when the Leader of UPND, President Hichilema started attacking Barorseland, that there is nothing like a country called Barotseland. Remarks which questioned the existence of the Litunga and demeaned his reign. Since President Hichilema got alot of support from Lozis, Dr Akashambatwa espected an apology from President because he had hurt the people who supported him day and night.
Hon. Sinyinda Wainyae also served as teacher in Barotseland, he became Headmaster at Lukona and Senanga Secondary Schools before becoming the Member of Parliament for Senanga Consitituency then. Eventually he was appointed Deputy Minister of Education in MMD regime.
At Namuso, he was appointed Ngambela by the Litunga and when the people of Baroteland demanded for Barotseland National Council (BNC) he facilitated it without fear and in respect to people’s wishes. This even made him get arrested and charged for Treason.
When he came out from prison, Hon. Sinyinda supported the UPND and President Hichilema thinking he would attend to Barotseland problems but he was disappointed.
Whether out of anger or principal and also considering their democratic rights, both Dr. Akashambatwa and Hon. Sinyinda chose to support Mundubile and all of a sudden they’re being insulted and seen as enemies of UPND!
No, Western Province is not part of Southern Province where they support UPND whether it is doing bad or good. And our people should not be made to disrespect our elders on account of not supporting UPND and President Hichilema.
Our Litunga recently chose to marry our tribal counsinship to that of Bembas and we need to respect him for that. This is the same thing with Dr. Akashambatwa and Hon. Sinyinda, they need to be respected for their democratic choice, they have seen something wrong with UPND and President Hichilema.

“This is how democratic the people of Western Province have been” is warped logic. It is institutions which can be democratic, not people. People follow democratic obligations.
This Prince awe sure, how democratic can the people of Western Province be more than the people of Southern Province? Does he live in Zambia or in the diaspora? If anything the people of Southern Province have been more democratic
than what he thinks. If being democratic is to be gauged by the person or people you vote for, then the people of Southern Province are very democratic more than the word and we are proud of them. Here is why and how: if we take Livingstone for example, the first MP in 1964 was Mainza Chona followed by Jethro Mutati in 1968. In 1973, it was Arthur Wina, late husband to Her Hon. Inonge Wina. He was followed by Sebastian Kapalu in 1978. Then fast forward to 2001, we had Sakwiba Sikota, 2012, Howard Sikwela succeeded by Lawrence Evans in 2013 and in 2016, there was Mathews Jere. These names mentioned here represent many Provinces, Eastern, Western and Northwestern Provinces. So where is the blindly voting you are talking about? Even when the Tongas voted for prominent Lozi people like Arthur Wina and Sakwiba Sikota, you still can’t appreciate, and Sakwiba Sikota is still alive today. Then what kind of a person are you? Are you not the one who is blind? Are you not worse than a witch? You are supporting Mundubile not out of your democratic principles but out of frustration. Both Mr. Sinyinda and yourself are frustrated people, as you have rightly put it, you expected the Tongas to support Sakwiba Sikota after the demise of Mazoka. But that could have been the real blind support now, just because Sakwiba was the Vice Party President at that time, you wanted an automatic take over and support from the Tongas but in democracy, things don’t always happen that way. There are always reasons or qualities for supporting someone and because of those reasons or qualities, the people of Mongu chose Makai in the primaries and the Party adopted him because he became the people’s choice. It’s you now who wants to frustrate the people’s choice because of your tribalism. Leave the people of Western Province to vote for the candidates of their choice. After all you are bitterly complaining about the previous governments for under developing or neglecting Western Province, what do you expect Mundubile to do more or better than what HH has already done and is still doing for Western Province? The people you are supporting have already given you a leakage that Western Province doesn’t deserve an international Airport. This time it’s not the president to develop the province or country, it’s the people themselves. We all get the equal share of CDF, and if you multiply 40 million by 26 Constituencies in Western Province, it gives you 10.4 billion if am not mistaken. Who has ever given that kind of money to the people in each Province? Muletasha bane. If you fail to prudently use that money to develop your province, whom do you blame apart from yourselves? “If the country is to develop, the tribe has to die” Samora Machel.
