Trump Says Iran Is Burdening Iraq During White House Meeting with New Iraqi Prime Minister

BREAKING: Trump Says Iran Is Burdening Iraq During White House Meeting with New Iraqi Prime Minister

U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Iraq’s newly appointed Prime Minister at the White House on Tuesday, where the two leaders discussed bilateral relations, regional security, and the future of cooperation between Washington and Baghdad.

Speaking to reporters ahead of their meeting, Trump praised Iraq’s vast natural wealth and offered personal compliments to the Iraqi leader.

“Iraq is a great country with oil,” Trump said. “It is a wealthy nation with tremendous natural resources, and its Prime Minister is a handsome man.”

Trump then turned to regional issues, arguing that Iran continues to exert significant influence over Iraq and describing Tehran as a destabilizing force across the Middle East.

“Iran is a burden on Iraq because Iran is a country that causes problems for the nations of the Middle East,” the U.S. president said.

The remarks come amid ongoing regional tensions and renewed U.S. efforts to strengthen ties with Iraq while countering Iranian influence in the region. Iraq has long maintained complex relations with both Washington and Tehran, balancing security cooperation with the United States while sharing deep political, economic, and religious ties with neighboring Iran.

Neither the Iraqi Prime Minister nor his office immediately responded publicly to Trump’s comments regarding Iran. The White House meeting is expected to focus on security cooperation, energy development, economic investment, and broader regional stability.
