Mopani suspension will have minimal impact on copper production – Govt


MINISTRY of Mines Permanent Secretary Dr Hapenga Kabeta says the recent suspension of operations at Mopani Copper Mines will have only a minimal impact on copper production. On February 13, the Minerals Regulation Commission (MRC) suspended underground operations at Mopani’s mine sites in Kitwe and Mufulira over safety non-compliance following recent fatal accidents. However, on February 17, the Commission lifted the suspension of underground operations at Mopani Copper Mines’ Mufulira mine, following what they deemed as “implementation of enhanced safety measures,” while operations in Kitwe remained suspended.
