GIVEN KATUTA UNAWARE OF RUNNING MATE’S WITHDRAWAL

Independent presidential candidate Given Katuta says she is not aware that her running mate, John Nyirends has pulled out ahead of the August 13th General Election.
Speaking in an interview, Ms. Katuta says Mr. Nyirenda has not informed her of any decision to step down and that she only learnt about the reported withdrawal through social media and media inquiries.
She says Mr. Nyirenda has been coordinating campaign activities in Eastern Province and has continued providing updates on the party’s activities in the region.
Ms. Katuta says she cannot comment on the matter until she receives confirmation directly from Mr. Nyirenda, adding that she expects him to formally communicate with her if he has indeed withdrawn.
She says campaign preparations are continuing, with plans to hold activities in Central, North-Western and Luapula provinces, while awaiting clarification on the reported development.
