High Court quashes ECZ’s decision to bar “Candle” symbol
THE Lusaka High has ruled that the Electoral Commission of Zambia acted illegally to revoke, withdraw or require replacement of the “Candle” symbol already allocated to independent candidates for the 2026 General Election. In this matter, Ex-Partes Simon Mwila, Michael Chuulu, Faith Lungu, Gary Nkombo and Iris Kaingu Kamwi dragged the Electoral Commission of Zambia seeking an order of prohibition directing and prohibiting the Electoral Commission of Zambia, the Chief Electoral Officer, Town Clerks, Council Secretaries, and any agents or officers acting pursuant to or under the direction of Commission, from implementing, enforcing, or any manner whatsoever, giving effect to Circular EC/101/1/29 dated 6 June 2026.
