Aug winner likely to be decided in Round 2 – Kambwili
Citizens First (CF) Roan parliamentary candidate Chishimba Kambwili says the 2026 general elections will likely be decided in the second round as the combined votes of the opposition will stop President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND from getting 50+1% outright majority in the first round.
Speaking with Daily Revelation yesterday, Kambwili said going by his political analysis over the many years he had spent in politics, indications were that the country would need a rerun between the two topmost candidates to settle the 2026 general election.
Asked on observations that the many opposition contestants would likely eat into each others votes, Kambwili the beauty about the current electoral system was that it offered political participants and the electorate a second

HH going into round 2 with who? with Kalaba, or M’membe? Ba Kambwili, Stop hallucinating.
Ba Kambwili continues to rely on the majority of his tribe and those with limited education, rather than on genuine leadership, as he has done in previous years. However, the populace is beginning to awaken, including individuals who lack formal education. Continue to hold onto your dreams.
Highly unlikely. The race will be settled in the first round. Most of the so called opposition parties presidential candidates will get less than five percent. HH’s vote is largely intact whereas the others will split the vote. The incumbent just needs a slight push to get him over the 50% + 1.
The problem is the opposition live in an echo chamber. They only hear and listen to their demons. They would do well to ensure that they monitor the voting and counting carefully so that when they lose (not if they lose), there will be no cries of rigging. We don’t want chaos and prolonged court cases after the elections.
We need to move on and get on with the serious business of developing our country.
The gentleman likes talking without facts. The funny thing is that he seems to be very fit when talking politics but plays possum when facing criminal charges.
The theoretical analysis by Chishimba Kambwili that the August 2026 presidential election results will go to a second round of voting to determine the winner through the 50% + 1 requirement is a misconception and misplaced thinking.
Most opposition presidential candidates do not possess strong and solid leadership capable of influencing and altering the voting pattern. Leadership is not just about being talkative and having the courage to criticize based on false narratives while making unrealistic promises. The reality is that the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance is built on reactionary politics and a marriage of convenience driven by greed for power. Their strategy is to spread falsehoods and appeal for sympathetic votes by using the issue of the delayed burial of former Sixth President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
On the other hand, the UPND government has delivered economic policies and implemented tangible actions by restructuring external debt, improving the rule of law and governance, and increasing social and economic inclusivity in response to the needs of vulnerable people, the youth, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Above all, political caderism, hooliganism, thuggish behaviour, and political violence have reduced under the UPND government compared to the previous PF regime.
In the August 2026 voting, people will make decisions based on comparison analysis and observable developmental trends , and the majority of voters are youths who cannot be swayed by old and outdated politics of tribalism and exaggerated hate speech. Chishimba Kambwili is thinking and reasoning from the past.
Chishimba Kambwili trailed behind Grayford Monde at their convention where Makebi Zulu emerged victorious. Chishimba Kambwili is a spent force and should retire from active politics. Given Lubinda is wise, he is busy harvesting maize at his farm. Chishimba Kambwili heed advice.
