Freedom of jailed opposition to come with govt change – Mundubile
National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says the freedom of jailed opposition figures such as Bowman Lusambo, Raphael Nakachinda and others will only come through a change of government.
Mundubile said this after what he described as an unsuccessful attempt to visit incarcerated Nakachinda at a correctional facility, where he claimed he and his legal team were blocked from seeing their client despite waiting for over an hour.
The opposition leader, who is also a practising lawyer, said it was unfortunate that detainees were allegedly being denied access to their lawyers, which he described as a basic constitutional right.
“It’s very, very sad indeed. We have been here for the past hour and a half and we have been giving one excuse after another,” Mundubile said.
He said he had gone to the facility in his professional capacity as a lawyer, insisting that inmates must be allowed access to legal representation regardless of their political status.
Mundubile further claimed that officers at the facility required clearance from senior authorities before allowing lawyers to see their clients, a situation he
was unnecessary.
He added that the continued detention of some opposition figures showed governance challenges that, in his view, could only be resolved through removing of ruling UPND from power.
“The freedom that you are looking for, the freedom for Nakachinda, for Lusambo, for Malanji, for Bowman and everybody else who is behind bars, will only come when government changes,” Mundubile said.

You will be number last my foolish bemba brother. That’s why people are saying fwe babemba tatwakwata amano……
A so called law maker who clearly doesn’t understand the concept of separation of powers.
These are the misleaders who cursed themselves and are lost in the political wilderness.
Mandubile, you objective to win power is to come and release your colleagues,
proven thieves like joseph malanji!!! Really! You expect a sane person like me
to vote for your clique so that you get power to come and release those bandits.
And You are not ashamed of yourself. I hope they will recheck your business
dealings with faith musonda after the elections. You and your group dont mean well for
Zambia and its people.
What Mr. Mundubile is saying is that as President he will directly interfere with the judiciary and order the release of the convicts. All those former PF government officials were jailed after the due processof the law.
Under Mr. Mundubile, we can expect more plunder of the national treasury and total lawlessness because as far as he is concerned those in power are entitled to plunder and are above the law.
Who has forgotten how Mr. Lusambo used to boast that K2million was pocket change for him and that his wife’s perfume cost the equivalent of rentals in upmarket areas of Lusaka? We all know what Mr. Lusambo’s salary was as a government minister. We know what his financial status was before he joined government.
To claim that these are victims of political persecution is preposterous to day the least.
Beginning of the lawlessness
Here is a lawyer who seeks to win an election solely to open prison doors. What sort of individuals are these? Do they genuinely think, or are they merely blinded by the contracts and the money they have been embezzling over the years? Elections are not akin to court appeals. When political leaders start to communicate as if state authority primarily exists to protect friends, family, and party affiliations from examination, the republic itself becomes collateral. Zambia must never permit these individuals to approach positions of power.
Mundublie is not being wise. No voter in their right frame of mind would wabt such leadership. There are better ways of campaigning.
Either they are in prison because they committed a crime- which means that releasing them is to go against the rule of law.
Or, they are in prison but they never committed a crime, therefore releasing them would be justice, BUT it means that the judges that convicted them are wrong and must be removed from office.
Which is which Mr Mundubile?
That’s why I think that God heard the prayer of that suffering elderly woman retiree at ministry of justice during PC’s misrule. Hence this political foolishness Mundubile is exhibiting.
*PF not PC
