LCC to replace umbrella trees with palm trees to safeguard roads


THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has announced that it is replacing umbrella trees along selected road reserves and paved sections with infrastructure-friendly tree species, as part of ongoing road works under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said in a statement that the decision follows technical assessments which found that umbrella trees, despite their contribution to urban greenery, pose a risk to road infrastructure due to their aggressive root systems.
