We expect mealie meal prices to drop by July – Hamusimbi
CHIEF Agricultural Advisor for the Job Accelerator Project Coillard Hamusimbi says by July this year the country will see dynamics pushing mealie prices down due to the fact that a lot of farmers will have harvested. Hamusimbi adds that the country’s target of achieving 10 million metric tonnes of maize might come earlier than 2031 if the country improves productivity among small-scale farmers by doubling yields. Meanwhile, Hamusimbi says the country will still have enough stock even if it experiences average rainfall, adding that during the worst drought in memory, the country still managed to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of maize.
