Court throws out case against independent parliamentary candidates
THE Lusaka High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the nomination of 101 independent parliamentary candidates in the 2026 General Elections, stating that the petition was incompetently and improperly brought before court. Last week, a consortium of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance and Constitutionalism and civil liberties activist Isaac Mwanza challenged the nominations of 101 independent parliamentary candidates, arguing that the candidates did not resign from their political parties before filing their nominations. Among the independent candidates sued were Gary Nkombo, contesting the Mazabuka seat as an independent candidate, Dr Chitalu Chilufya and Miles Sampa of the Patriotic Front.
