UNZALARU decries govt’s failure to clear UNZA debt
UNZALARU has lamented that the University of Zambia is now perceived as a death trap for many of its employees due to government’s failure to clear terminal benefits, which now exceed K1.3 billion. Speaking during a press briefing, Wednesday, University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) president Andrew Phiri disclosed that as of February 2026, about 1,212 persons were owed gratuities. “The University is burdened with terminal benefits obligations exceeding K1.3 billion, a burden far beyond its capacity to settle without deliberate government intervention.
