ZCTU calls for dialogue with govt over civil servants’ rising debt
THE Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called for urgent talks with government over rising loan defaults among civil servants, saying it is concerned that many workers are failing to service their loans. On Friday, the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) raised concern over civil servants’ failure to repay loans, warning that the trend poses risks to the country’s financial sector. In an interview, Saturday, ZCTU vice-president Joseph Chewe attributed the inability by public service workers to service loans to financial distress, saying the situation presents an opportunity for government and unions to engage and find solutions to the problem.
