We aim to win all C/belt seats – UPND

COPPERBELT Province UPND Chairman Elisha Matambo says the party is targeting to win all the constituencies, wards and mayoral positions in the province.
Meanwhile, Matambo has claimed that some pupils committed suicide in the previous government due to difficulties in paying school and examination fees.
Speaking during a virtual interview with Millennium TV, Wednesday, Matambo said the UPND’s goal was to ensure President Hakainde Hichilema secured more than 80 percent of the votes.
“Our desire is to win all the constituencies on the Copperbelt, all the wards, all mayoral and council chairperson positions. Our first priority is to ensure President Hichilema secures more than 80 percent of the vote in all constituencies on the Copperbelt. President Hichilema won in all 22 constituencies on the Copperbelt in the 2021 elections. The people came out in large numbers and voted for him despite the challenges he faced while campaigning. He also faced assassination attempts, one which was at Sun FM radio, another at Moba hotel where he had to escape through a window and another incident in Chingola where live bullets were fired at his vehicle when he was by UCZ,” he said.
“When we came into office, we found over 600,000 children struggling to go to school and pay school fees. Some of them we lost them through suicide as they were chased from school because they could not afford school or examination fees. We used to have these situations where our children were committing suicide after being sent away from school due to failure to pay fees”.
Matambo further said the Tonse Alliance should have used its recent Copperbelt rally to apologise to residents for the “hardships” they experienced while the PF was in government.
“A lot of people died because there was no medicine in hospitals. Others died out of depression because thousands of people lost their jobs in the mining sector. I expected my brothers in PF, now in Tonse Alliance, to first apologise to the people of the Copperbelt for the pain they caused and for those who lost their lives. They should have first apologised before they even stated that campaign, they had a good opportunity to do so when they were their launching their rally,” said Matambo.
