Mandevu residents are “fatigued” with Kapata, they don’t want her back – Shakafuswa

MANDEVU UPND aspiring candidate Christopher Shakafuswa says residents are “fatigued” with Jean Kapata and do not want her back as their MP.
Shakafuswa claims that Kapata failed to contest as MP in 2021 because she did not have a Grade 12 certificate.
On Monday, Jean Kapata said her return to active politics came at the invitation of Mandevu residents, who went to her house asking that she comes back as MP.
In an interview, Wednesday, Shakafuswa said Kapata had always wanted to be in power.
“She actually didn’t leave the constituency for me, Honourable Kapata has always wanted to be in power. She voted for a Bill that time that required that MPs should have grade 12 certificates and that Bill went against her advantage. She actually didn’t have her Grade 12 [certificate] at the time the 2021 adoptions were happening, and that is the truth, otherwise she really wanted to stand in 2021. In terms of development, in her 13 years that she stood as member of parliament, the only things that I think she did for the people was just build police posts. But under my reign, we’ve built classroom infrastructure, we are building and rehabilitating roads, we have built three maternity wings. We have bought over 6,000 desks for children, we are building four police posts across Mandevu, we have built marketeers shelters in Garden compound at Chilulu market. We have done so much under my reign, I think about 60 programmes,” he said.
“And in her reign, I think she was able to do less than 10 projects. In my ward, Honourable Kapata only delivered one police post. So, when she says that in her term, she brought development, what development did she bring to Mandevu? Honourable Kapata should be honest with herself, we shall see when the results are out whether they’ll vote for her or not. What I know is that people are fatigued with her and they don’t want her back in Mandevu constituency based on the development trajectory I’ve just told you”.
Shakafuswa said voters would judge based on records of delivery.
“Otherwise, the campaigns are going on well, they are very peaceful and everyone is able to do their campaign. Those who want to do roadshows are being allowed to do their roadshows. I think now people have been receiving our message, and we’ve just been reminding each other on why they need to vote me back and especially the UPND to continue. And contesting the seat with Honourable Jean Kapata, you know it’s a democracy and I think every person has got the right to stand for elections according to our Constitution. So, for us who have been on the seat before, the people are able to tell who did what and who delivered what and so people will choose their leaders based on our records. So, for Honourable Kapata, if she did her part with very little or no development at all to show for it. I have done my part in five years and the people are able to see and they’ll be able to differentiate who means well for the people,” said Shakafuswa.
