UPND CONDEMNS MUNDUBILE’S REMARKS ON CIVIL SERVANTS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO A PROFESSIONAL PUBLIC SERVICE
The United Party for National Development (UPND) has expressed concern over remarks attributed to NIRPUP leader Brian Mundubile in Mporokoso, in which he reportedly threatened to dismiss certain civil servants if elected into office.
The UPND believes such statements are regrettable and risk creating unnecessary fear and uncertainty among public servants, whose primary responsibility is to serve the people of Zambia professionally, regardless of the government of the day.
We wish to remind the nation that under President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration, the Government has consistently upheld the principle of a professional, non-partisan and merit-based civil service. Since assuming office in 2021, the UPND Government has undertaken large-scale recruitment of civil servants across all provinces and districts, with recruitment conducted in line with the principles of national unity, inclusiveness and equal opportunity.
The UPND further maintains that, unlike previous administrations, no civil servant has been dismissed solely on the basis of perceived political affiliation under the New Dawn Government. Instead, civil servants have been encouraged to discharge their duties impartially, professionally and in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Zambia.
It is our considered view that political leaders should avoid rhetoric that may be interpreted as threatening public officers. Such statements undermine confidence within the civil service and are inconsistent with the values of democratic governance and national unity.
We therefore urge Mr. Mundubile and other political leaders to respect the independence and professionalism of Zambia’s civil servants. Public officers are not political actors; they are citizens who are entitled to exercise their constitutional rights, including the right to vote for candidates of their choice.
The UPND remains committed to protecting the integrity of the civil service and ensuring that appointments, promotions and continued service are guided by competence, professionalism and the law rather than political considerations.
As the country heads towards the 13 August 2026 General Election, we call upon Zambians to support leadership that promotes unity, stability and respect for public institutions. We remain focused on consolidating the economic gains achieved over the past five years while accelerating efforts to reduce the cost of living, create more jobs and improve the welfare of all citizens through continued investment in mining, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), Cash for Work, empowerment programmes and agricultural support initiatives.
The UPND assures all civil servants that under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, they will continue to be protected from political victimisation and encouraged to serve the nation with professionalism, integrity and dedication. Our staunch belief as UPND is that Civil servants are not politicians, they are citizens who also have the right to vote for the leader of their choice.
Under the UPND and President Hichilema, no civil servant shall be victimized. This is because Bally loves, Bally cares, Bally delivers on a professional civil service and he says there is more work to be done.
This is why we are seeking another mandate so that we can now focus on reducing the cost of living and create more jobs for our people, since we have laid a strong foundation in mining, CDF, Cash for work, Imisepela loans and Fertliser Input Support Programme.

WHY DID LOT’S WIFE TURN INTO A PILLAR OF SALT?
THE SHOCKING LESSON MANY PEOPLE HAVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD!
Child of God, have you ever wondered why Lot’s wife suffered such a severe judgment for simply looking back?
Was God punishing her for one glance?
Was it just curiosity?
Or was there something much deeper behind her actions?
The answer reveals a powerful spiritual truth that every believer must understand.
The account is found in Genesis 19.
God had determined to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because their wickedness had reached its limit. Yet, in His mercy, He sent two angels to rescue Lot and his family before judgment fell upon the cities.
The angels gave a clear command.
“Escape for your life! Do not look behind you and do not stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be swept away.”
This was not just advice.
It was a command from God.
Lot, his wife, and his two daughters fled as fire and brimstone rained down from heaven.
Then came one of the saddest verses in the Bible.
Genesis 19:26 says,
“But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”
Many people think she merely turned her head for a second.
But the original picture is much deeper.
Her look was not simply with her eyes.
It revealed the condition of her heart.
Although her feet were leaving Sodom, her heart was still in Sodom.
She was physically escaping God’s judgment, but emotionally she was still attached to the sinful life she was leaving behind.
She missed what God had already condemned.
She longed for the place God was destroying.
Jesus Himself confirmed this lesson.
In Luke 17:32, while teaching about His Second Coming, Jesus gave one of the shortest yet most powerful warnings in the Bible.
“Remember Lot’s wife.”
Out of all the people in the Old Testament, Jesus singled out Lot’s wife as a warning for the last days.
Why?
Because many people begin following God, yet their hearts remain attached to the world.
They leave sinful habits outwardly, but inwardly they still desire them.
Some leave drunkenness but miss the parties.
Some leave sexual immorality but continue entertaining sinful desires.
Some leave ungodly lifestyles but constantly look back with regret instead of gratitude.
God is not interested in changing only your location.
He wants to transform your heart.
Lot’s wife teaches us that it is possible to be very close to salvation and still miss it because of a divided heart.
She walked with the people who were being rescued.
She heard the warning directly from angels.
She was only moments away from complete deliverance.
Yet she perished because she refused to fully let go of the life behind her.
Many believers today are doing the same thing.
They attend church.
They read the Bible.
They pray.
Yet deep inside, they secretly wish they could return to the very lifestyle Christ delivered them from.
The Christian life cannot be lived while constantly looking backward.
The Apostle Paul understood this truth.
In Philippians 3:13, he declared,
“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.”
God calls His children to move forward, not backward.
Lot’s wife also reminds us that delayed obedience can become disobedience.
God’s instructions are not optional suggestions.
They are given for our protection.
When God says flee from sin, He means flee.
When He says forgive, He means forgive.
When He says repent, He means repent.
Every command of God is an expression of His love.
There is another important lesson.
God’s judgment is real.
For many years, Sodom ignored God’s warnings.
People continued living as though judgment would never come.
Then, in a single day, everything changed.
The same is true today.
Many mock God’s Word.
Many laugh at the message of repentance.
Many believe Christ will never return.
But just as judgment came unexpectedly upon Sodom, Jesus will return at the appointed time.
The question is not whether Christ will return.
The question is whether our hearts are ready.
Child of God, is there anything behind you that you are still holding on to?
Is there a sinful relationship you refuse to release?
Is there a habit that keeps pulling your heart away from God?
Is there a worldly lifestyle you secretly miss?
Do not become like Lot’s wife.
Do not allow your past to destroy the future God has prepared for you.
When God delivers you, never look back with longing.
Look forward with faith.
The God who calls you out of darkness has something far greater ahead than anything you leave behind.
Teaching Summary
Lot’s wife did not perish because of a simple glance. Her backward look revealed a heart that was still attached to the sinful life God had commanded her to leave. Her story teaches that true repentance requires not only leaving sin outwardly but also surrendering our hearts completely to God.
Jesus told us to remember Lot’s wife because her life is a warning to every generation. Following Christ means letting go of the past, trusting God’s direction, and refusing to desire the very things He has delivered us from.
God calls His people to move forward in faith, not backward in regret. Those who fully trust Him will discover that what He has prepared ahead is far greater than anything they leave behind.
M ay God give us the grace to leave every sinful attachment behind and follow Him with an undivided heart until the very end. Amen.
