FIFA World Cup 2026: Morocco Coach Ouahbi Targets More History Ahead of France Clash
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has insisted the Atlas Lions are determined to extend their impressive FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign after securing a place in the quarter-finals.
According to a report by SCORENigeria, the North Africans booked their spot in the last eight with a convincing 3-0 victory over co-hosts Canada, becoming the first African nation to reach the World Cup quarter-finals in consecutive editions.
Morocco will now face tournament favourites France on July 9, but Ouahbi believes his side has no intention of ending its remarkable journey at that stage.
“We want to keep going. We don’t want to stop,” Ouahbi said after the victory over Canada.
He stressed that his players must maintain the same level of ambition, confidence, humility, and determination as they prepare for the highly anticipated showdown with the French.
The Morocco coach also declared that his team has outgrown its underdog status and should now be regarded as genuine contenders for the title.
“We’re no longer a surprise. We’re real contenders and a major footballing nation,” Ouahbi stated.
He added that leading the current Moroccan squad is a great source of pride and expressed hope that the country’s recent World Cup achievements would become a consistent trend rather than a one-off success.
Morocco made history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
Four years later, the Atlas Lions have continued their rise by reaching another quarter-final and keeping alive their dream of an even deeper run in the 2026 tournament.
