BREAKING: Trump Melts Down at 1AM Demanding Congress Hand Him $350 Billion
Trump was up before 1 in the morning raging on Truth Social again, and this time he wants Congress to hand him another $350 billion.
In a post fired off at 12:58 a.m., the 80-year-old president demanded lawmakers make a so-called “Reconciliation 3.0” their “Number One Priority,” a third massive spending package that would pour $350 billion into defense spending. He paired it with yet another push for his stalled SAVE America Act, a bill requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and largely banning mail-in ballots.
The problem for Trump is that his own party has already told him no.
Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins warned last month that pursuing a third spending package would be a “terrible risk.” Mitch McConnell, who chairs the defense appropriations subcommittee, went even further, saying it was “safe to conclude there will not be another reconciliation bill” this term.
Republicans have reason to be exhausted. Trump only got his second spending package through after Senate Republicans stripped out an extra $1 billion he wanted for security around his White House ballroom vanity project.
The SAVE America Act, meanwhile, keeps failing because it does not have the votes. Critics warn the election overhaul is a pretext for Trump to meddle in November’s midterms, where Republicans are bracing for heavy losses.
So instead of negotiating, Trump is doing what he always does: staying up past midnight, ranting into his phone, and demanding Congress fix his problems for him. Even the Republicans who carried his first two bills across the finish line are no longer picking up the phone.
