SENATOR AMARILLA’S LAWYER THREATENS TO SUE MBAPPE FOR CALLING HER “DESPICABLE”.
The controversy surrounding Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla and Kylian Mbappé has taken a stunning new turn, with Amarilla’s lawyer now threatening legal action against the French captain.
Attorney Guillermo Duarte declared his client innocent of any wrongdoing under Paraguayan law and announced that the defence is considering filing a lawsuit against Mbappé himself.
His reasoning is that since defamation and slander are criminal offences in France, the same legal framework could be used against Mbappé for calling Amarilla a “despicable woman” in his public response to her remarks. Duarte even raised the possibility of seeking Mbappé’s extradition to Paraguay to face the charges.
To recap what led here: Amarilla called Mbappé a “colonized Cameroonian pretending to be French,” compared him to chimpanzees, and said he grew up sucking coconuts instead of breastmilk. Mbappé responded by calling her despicable and unworthy of her position. The French Football Federation subsequently filed criminal complaints against her.
Now her lawyer wants to sue Mbappé for his response to her racial abuse.
Mbappé is represented by some of the most powerful legal teams in world sport. The Paraguay extradition threat is likely to go nowhere fast.
