A seemingly ordinary conversation ended in tragedy in Indonesia after a 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his neighbour, claiming he had grown tired of being repeatedly questioned about why he was still unmarried.
According to Indonesian police, Parlindungan Siregar, 45, is accused of fatally attacking his 60-year-old neighbour, Asgim Irianto, during an altercation in July 2024.
Investigators say Siregar admitted he lost his temper after Irianto repeatedly asked why he had not married despite being 45 years old.
Police allege that Siregar assaulted the victim with a wooden plank at his home before chasing him into the street, where the attack continued. Irianto later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities further revealed that the two neighbours had a history of disagreements, including previous disputes involving chickens that allegedly wandered onto each other’s property.
Siregar has since been arrested and is facing murder charges as investigations continue.
The incident has sparked discussion on social media about the impact of repeated personal questions and unresolved neighbourly disputes. However, authorities stress that no matter the circumstances, disagreements should never be resolved through violence.
