Zambians trembling in fear like people of the Kingdom of Judah, says Archbishop Chama
THE Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) says Zambians face a critical choice in the forthcoming elections, warning that the leader they elect could either steer the country towards prosperity or plunge it into turmoil.
ZCCB President Archbishop Ignatius Chama has cautioned that Zambia risks descending into violence if the current situation in the country is allowed to continue.
Delivering his homily, Archbishop Chama said the prevailing atmosphere has left many people, including members of the clergy, living in fear over the nation’s future.
“Looking at what is going on so far, there is a sense of fear in most of us that we are slowly inviting trouble for ourselves.
“The freedoms and liberties that are being taken away from the citizens are creating a foundation that will grow into violence and loss of what we have built as a country,” he said.
He urged Zambians to elect leaders who will uphold the freedoms and liberties of every citizen, regardless of tribe, political affiliation or social standing.
Despite his concerns, Archbishop Chama expressed confidence that God would continue to protect the nation if its people remained steadfast in their faith.
“God will uphold our country, provided we as individuals in our country are willing to believe that God is more than willing to uphold us; that God will stand by us always,” he said.
Referring to the death of 32-year-old Nelson Chikumbi of John Laing, who was allegedly killed after playing a campaign song for opposition leader Brian Mundubile, Archbishop Chama likened the current mood in Zambia to that of the Kingdom of Judah, where people trembled in fear in the face of looming threats.
He further challenged church leaders to remain faithful to their prophetic calling by offering moral guidance to the nation and inspiring hope rooted in God rather than political interests.

It is unfortunate that is an elderly citizen.
And a man of the cloth that is trying to excite public concern over a matter that was adequately handled by law enforcement.
The individuals that murdered that young man have been arrested. Murderers and perpetuators of violence, tribalism and hate speech were not being arrested during PF days. There is a new sheriff in town.
The Catholic institution in Zambia was a beneficiary of the lawlessness of those days. Brown envelopes changed hands. And to date they have failed to reprimand or discipline a very senior clergy who accepted a Toyota Hilux stolen from a government institution. Nobody is fooled by the fundamental lack of morality that underlines the dramatics of the Catholic leadership in Zambia. Except themselves.
Catholic bishops as a collective in Zambia speak through a certain document. Where’s that document? I want to read it.
The Catholic church in Zambia has seen its mythical influence and hold on Zambian’s eroded by social media.Bishops, please step back before your reckless and alarmist homilies unveil you as fallible mere mortals.Quietly accept that Archbishop S
Alick Banda was legitimately called to account by the state
The Catholic Church has lost credibility because of pronouncements such as this from Archbishop Chama. Who is trembling because of cyber laws? Should people be allowed to scandalised others through falsehoods or insults? Is that a reflection of christian values?
The calm atmosphere of the election campaigns is unprecedented. Parties are freely campaigning unlike in 2021. Of course there have been a few unfortunate incidents which have resulted in loss of life and the law should be allowed to take its course. But to say we are headed in the wrong direction is being less than honest with ourselves. And such alarmist rhetoric coming from the Archbishop is very sad.
The political environment has improved tremendously considering what was obtaining during the notorious PF days.
Shameless hypocrites.
He can’t understand the bible what it says.
Can you please stop lying. You are too old for such desperate political antics. Which Zambians are trembling with fear? And where are those Zambians ? What’s wrong with these fake priests. How many are those Zambians and when did you speak to them and from where? You are too old to be behaving so shameful like this.
He is such a shameless lier. I wonder what kind of people follow such pastors. How can a normal person believe these cheap lies
