Former Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has warned the ruling United Party for National Development UPND against what he claimed were plans targeting Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu.
Speaking at a Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance campaign rally in Kafue yesterday, Mr. Kampyongo, while pointing at the two opposition leaders, said:
“We want to assure them that the things they are planning on the lives of these two, we know, and we will not let it happen. We are ready for them.”
Mr. Kampyongo did not provide details or evidence regarding the alleged plans.
He also appealed to the Zambia Police Service to remain professional and impartial during the election period. Mr Kampyongo said police officers should not allow themselves to be used to manipulate the electoral process and pledged that an NRPUP-led government would improve their welfare if elected into office.
“You should not be used to rig the elections,” he told police officers, adding that the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance would ensure they are better looked after should it form government.
His remarks come as political parties continue campaigning ahead of the 13 August General Election, with calls from various stakeholders for peaceful, credible and transparent elections.

And ,one wonders, how, Kampyongo,would be campaigning in Kafue. When, he’s supposed to be in Siwang’andu, ,where he’s standing?
He has sensed, Heavy Defeat, after seing HH, thunderous ,entry in his constituency and Chinsali,
So, he runs away, to come and start creating lies in Kafue,

Mr. Kampyongo as Minister of Home Affairs, stripped the police of their authority and gave it to cadres. Police lived in fear of PF cadres. This is the man who us today saying he will look after the police well. Whay does he think of the police? Fools or people with short memories?
HH was fired upon when he was in opposition. Iam not aware of any opposition leader who has been shot at since UPND came to power in 2021. These people must be watched carefully. They might not accept defeat, hence the wild claims of plans to assassinate their Mr. Mundubile.
Thus man, Mr. Kampyongo, took away our freedoms. Just before the elections, he bought sophisticated weapons, military grade, for the police and bought the “hippo” anti riot trucks which I last saw deployed during the June 1976 Soweto riots during the apartheidera in South Africa. All this in anticipation of rioting since.they were bent on rigging the elections. However, the vote against the PF was so overwhelming they were stunned and rendered powerless inspite of the arsenal at their disposal.
Just focus on having a reliable vote monitoring system in place. We won’t entertain any allegations of rigging after the August elections.
This is what happens when you go for campaigns without any message for the electorates. Kampyongo is the former Minister of Home Affairs in the PF Administration and he is now saying; they know what UPND is planning to do and they are ready for them. But during his tenure, he didn’t know the gassers and arsonists who were burning markets. Up to now he has failed to tell us who those criminals were. I believe, that information was relevant to Zambians more than the rubbish he is talking about now. Who can think of assassinating Mundubile and Zulu and for what? Those guys are just waiting for another devastating defeat on 13th August. In Zambia we are civilized, Bally doesn’t defeat through assassinations but through the Ballot. Olo nikufuna ka sympathy from people, please try to find better methods and strategies and not these cheap ones you are trying to use.
