TRUMP REPORTEDLY REFUSES MEETING WITH NETANYAHU AFTER DISPUTE OVER U.S. F-35 SALES TO TURKEY
U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly refusing to hold a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following growing tensions over Washington’s plan to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, according to reports.
Sources familiar with the matter said Trump was angered by Netanyahu’s public criticism of the potential arms deal, which would allow Turkey to regain access to advanced U.S. military technology. The dispute has reportedly created a new strain in the relationship between Trump and Netanyahu, who have previously maintained a close political alliance.
The disagreement centers on concerns in Israel over Turkey’s possible acquisition of the fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter, with Israeli officials reportedly warning that the deal could affect the regional military balance and Israel’s qualitative military edge…
Trump, however, has defended closer defense cooperation with Ankara, arguing that strengthening ties with Turkey could serve broader U.S. strategic interests, particularly regarding NATO unity and regional security.
The reported snub comes amid a period of increasing friction between Washington and Jerusalem, as disagreements have emerged over several foreign policy issues, including arms decisions, regional diplomacy, and the handling of conflicts in the Middle East.
Neither Trump nor Netanyahu has officially confirmed that a meeting was canceled, but the reported dispute highlights growing tensions between two leaders who have historically been seen as close allies.
