GOVERNMENT has officially handed over completed Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects in education, healthcare and market infrastructure in Monze Central Constituency.
Among the projects commissioned was a newly constructed one-by-two classroom block at Namakube Community School in Chipembele Ward, built at a cost of K815,000.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Monze District Commissioner Mwanza Malambo said the classroom block had come at an opportune time following President Hakainde Hichilema’s assent to the Free Education Act.
“The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) continues to change lives in Monze Central, with the government officially handing over completed projects in education, healthcare and market infrastructure. Monze District Commissioner Mwanza Malambo commissioned a newly built one-by-two classroom block at Namakube Community School in Chipembele Ward, constructed at a cost of K815,000. The facility has been formally handed over to the Ministry of Education and is expected to ease classroom shortages, giving children a better learning environment. Speaking at the official handover, Mr Malambo said the classroom block comes at an opportune time when the Republican President has assented free education into law,” the Monze Town Council stated.
“He said the infrastructure is key to the implementation of the President’s vision of having every child access education in a safe environment and conducive environment. He added that free education would just remain on paper if such structures are not being built using CDF. ‘Government remains committed to equitable development, ensuring that rural communities have equal access to quality education,’ Mr Malambo said”.
In the health sector, Malambo also handed over the rehabilitated outpatient department (OPD) roof at St Mary’s Rural Health Post in Mayaba Ward.
“In a bid to improve healthcare accessibility, the District Commissioner also handed over the renovated outpatient department roof at St. Mary’s Rural Health Post in Mayaba Ward, financed at K220,000. The facility had the roof damaged during the rainy season and was renovated using the emergency component of the CDF funds. Mr Malambo said the renovation ensures that the residents do not travel long distances to access primary healthcare and that it will improve primary healthcare services for residents, reducing the burden of long-distance travel for medical attention,” the council stated.
The District Commissioner further commissioned rehabilitated market shelters at Nchete and Hamusonde Markets in Monze’s central business district.
“The District Commissioner further handed over two rehabilitated markets in Monze CBD. Traders at Nchete and Hamusonde Markets celebrated the handover of the rehabilitated market shelters, which are now equipped with electricity. Nchete Market Chairperson Victor Mazuba noted that, ‘For so long we were trading in a market that was not [fit for] human habitation. It was difficult to trade after 18:00 before the rehabilitation, but now we can trade until the agreed closing time because of the lights that have been installed’. The DC urged traders to safeguard the facilities and maintain cleanliness to prevent diseases. He also called for roadside vendors to be relocated back into the markets,” stated the council.
“Monze Town Council Secretary Robert Mlauzi emphasised that the upgraded markets will help reduce street vending by providing traders with a clean, organised, and safe trading environment. The electrified market shelters in Monze CBD are expected to extend trading hours and improve safety, while the new classrooms and health posts will strengthen service delivery in rural areas”.
