GOVERNMENT has commissioned CDF-funded projects in Chawama Constituency, which include a mortuary at Chawama Level One Hospital, street lights along Mpinga Road and the disbursement of 2026 empowerment loans.
The projects were officially handed over during a ceremony attended by Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary for Lusaka Province Sambaliya Tambatamba, who represented Permanent Secretary Joe Kalusa.
Speaking during the ceremony, Tambatamba said the completed projects reflected government’s continued commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens through better healthcare, improved road infrastructure and enhanced public safety.
“The government has commissioned key Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects in Chawama Constituency, including a completed mortuary at Chawama Level One Hospital, Jesus is the King Road, street lights installed along Mpinga Road, and the disbursement of the 2026 CDF Empowerment Loans. The projects were officially handed over during a ceremony graced by the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary for Lusaka Province, Ms Sambaliya Tambatamba, who represented the Permanent Secretary for Lusaka Province, Eng Joe Kalusa. Also in attendance was Ms Elizabeth Zulu Masinja, who represented the Provincial Local Government Officer (PLGO), Mr Charleston Hamulyata,” the Council stated.
“Speaking on behalf of the Guest of Honour, Ms Tambatamba said the commissioned projects demonstrate the government’s continued commitment to improving the quality of life for citizens through enhanced healthcare services, improved road infrastructure, increased public safety, and economic empowerment. She said that the completion of the mortuary at Chawama Level One Hospital will improve the hospital’s capacity to provide dignified mortuary services to the community, while the upgrading of Jesus is the King Road and the installation of street lights along Mpinga Road will improve accessibility, road safety, and security for residents”.
In a vote of thanks, Dr Nzoolo, a doctor at Chawama Level One Hospital, thanked government for constructing the mortuary, describing it as a significant addition that will enhance healthcare service delivery.
“In delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the community, Mr Jonathan John Mweetwa expressed gratitude to the government for responding to the developmental needs of Chawama Constituency. In a second vote of thanks, Dr Nzoolo of Chawama Level One Hospital thanked the government for constructing the mortuary, describing it as a significant addition that will enhance healthcare service delivery. He said that Chawama Level One Hospital is the only hospital in the constituency and previously had no mortuary, with the nearest facility being at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH). He said the new mortuary will ease the burden on bereaved families by providing mortuary services closer to the community,” stated the Council.
