GARY NKOMBO DISMISSES CLAIMS LINKING HIS DISMISSAL TO PRESIDENTIAL AMBITIONS

Independent Mazabuka Central parliamentary candidate Gary Nkombo has dismissed claims that he was removed from his position as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development because he allegedly intended to contest the presidency in the 2026 General Elections.

In a fact-check statement, Mr. Nkombo said he was never given official reasons for his dismissal and only heard speculation after leaving office.

He explained that it was during a recent political rally in Mazabuka that UPND campaign manager for the party’s parliamentary candidate, Maxwell Mwiinga, claimed he had been dismissed for allegedly plotting a presidential bid.

Mr. Nkombo said the remarks were the first explanation he had heard regarding his removal but maintained that the allegations are false and without basis.

He is contesting the Mazabuka Central parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the August 13 General Elections, using the candle as his campaign symbol.
