DU Leader Raises Concern Over Presidential Movements Disrupting Opposition Campaigns

Democratic Union Party Presidential Candidate Ackim Njobvu has raised concerns over the impact of presidential movements during the campaign period, saying the current arrangements make it difficult for opposition parties to effectively reach voters saying political parties need equal opportunities to conduct campaigns without disruptions caused by official engagements involving the president and vice president.

Mr. Njobvu says the limited campaign period requires careful planning to ensure all candidates have adequate time and space to interact with voters arguing that when the president conducts rallies across several areas in one province, other political parties are forced to adjust their programmes, affecting their ability to compete effectively.

He further says while the president has a mandate to conduct national duties, mechanisms should be put in place to ensure such engagements do not disadvantage other political players saying a fair electoral environment requires all parties to have equal access to campaign platforms and constituencies.

Mr. Njobvu has since called on the government and relevant electoral stakeholders to consider alternative arrangements that balance the responsibilities of the presidency with the need to maintain fairness among competing political parties during elections.
