JACINTA NGOBESE-ZUMA GIVES A STRONG WARNING TO ZIMBABWEAN PRESIDENT EMMERSON MNANGAGWA AND HIS GOVERNMENT, DEMANDING THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF BHEKIMPILO MBEDZI AND CALLING FOR ZIMBABWEANS TO BE ALLOWED TO PROTEST PEACEFULLY
MK Party Member of Parliament Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has issued a strong public message directed at Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government, calling for the immediate release of Bhekimpilo Mbedzi.
In a statement shared on social media, Ngobese-Zuma said she would not allow a day to pass without demanding Mbedzi’s release. She argued that Zimbabweans should be allowed to express themselves freely through peaceful protests, saying the right to protest is a fundamental democratic freedom.
She also questioned why people were being arrested for participating in protests, stating that citizens should be able to voice their concerns without fear of detention. Her message urged the Zimbabwean government to uphold the democratic principles it has pledged to protect.
The statement has attracted significant attention online, with many people supporting her call for the release of Mbedzi and for the protection of civil liberties in Zimbabwe. Others, however, expressed different opinions, arguing that the Zimbabwean government has a responsibility to maintain law and order.
The remarks come amid ongoing debate over political freedoms, arrests and the right to peaceful protest in Zimbabwe.
Do you think regional political leaders should speak out when they believe democratic rights are being restricted in another African country?
