Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has singled out Egypt captain Mohamed Salah as the key player his side must keep under close watch ahead of their FIFA World Cup Round of 16 encounter on Tuesday.
According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, Scaloni spoke highly of Mohamed Salah during his pre-match press conference.
He praised the Liverpool star’s quality, acknowledged the threat he poses, and described him as a world-class player who deserves special attention.
The Argentina manager, however, stressed that his team will rely on its collective defensive approach rather than focusing solely on one individual.
“Tomorrow [today] will be no exception; they are a tough opponent. As for Salah, he’s a top player, and it’s an honour to face him,” Scaloni said.
“But we always adopt a collective defence, and he deserves special attention; we analyse the entire Egypt team.”
Egypt secured their place in the Round of 16 after overcoming Australia in the previous round, while Argentina advanced with a victory over Cape Verde.
Tuesday’s fixture is expected to be one of the standout ties of the knockout stage, with Salah set to lead Egypt against the reigning world champions.
