Norway Unveils $306 Million Air Defense Package for Ukraine
Breaking News: Norway Unveils $306 Million Air Defense Package for Ukraine
Norway has announced a new military aid package worth approximately $306 million to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, with a particular focus on defending against Russian ballistic missile attacks.
The funding will be provided through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) framework and will support the procurement of advanced air defense equipment, including interceptor missiles for systems such as the Patriot. The initiative aims to enhance Ukraine’s ability to protect its cities, critical infrastructure, and military personnel from increasingly frequent Russian missile strikes.
The announcement comes at a time when Ukrainian officials have repeatedly warned of a critical shortage of interceptor missiles capable of countering ballistic threats. Kyiv has stressed that the lack of these munitions has reduced the effectiveness of its air defenses during recent waves of large-scale Russian attacks on the capital and other regions.
Norwegian authorities said the assistance reflects Oslo’s continued commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defense and complements broader international efforts to reinforce the country’s air shield. Air defense remains one of Ukraine’s highest military priorities as Russia continues to intensify long-range missile and drone attacks.
The latest package underscores Norway’s long-term support for Ukraine and highlights growing cooperation among Western allies to ensure Kyiv has the resources needed to defend its population and critical infrastructure against evolving aerial threats.
