DO not vote for someone just because they are your relative, reject them if they cannot move the country forward, says Vice-President Mutale Nalumango.
Vice- President Nalumango also says young people should not listen to the opposition who are promising them that they will be allowed to mine in an unregulated manner.
The Vice-President adds that President Hakainde Hichilema wants young people to acquire mining licences and formalise their mining operations so that they can mine in an orderly and lawful manner.
Speaking at a rally in Mpika, Tuesday, Vice-President Nalumango said young people should mine in an orderly and safe manner to ensure that no one dies due to unsafe mining practices.
“You young people who are mining copper and gold, don’t let the opposition lie to you that they will allow you to mine in a disorderly manner. Who do those minerals belong to, those minerals belong to you. Has Hakainde [Hichilema] stopped you from mining? All he is saying is that get artisanal and small-scale mining licences so that you can mine in an orderly manner. Mining without following environmental protection laws is dangerous; we are destroying our country. Hakainde wants youths to be trained and empowered with skills so they can mine safely. We want you to mine safely, we don’t want any child to die. Look at how long some of you have been mining but there is nothing to show for it because it is happening in a disorderly manner, even when you mine and sell your minerals to foreigners, they don’t give you enough, they get most of the proceeds. We want you to sell and get a better commission,” she said.
“Don’t just vote because it is time to vote. Choosing a leader determines the future of a country, choosing a leader will determine your children’s future and your future, so don’t vote for someone based on tribe. If someone comes to you and asks you to vote for them based on tribe, tell them to get lost. Let us not go back to fighting and violence, a crocodile will always be a crocodile. Those who used to bring violence have regrouped and are now calling themselves a new name. When you vote for PF, you should know that you have voted for violence. If you vote for PF, just know that you have voted for backwardness, tribalism, regionalism, we cannot walk that path again. Let them not lie to us again”.
Vice-President Nalumango urged citizens to compare the works of the UPND government and the previous government and pick the best leader.
“Those who destroyed the wealth of the country, do you think today they can now create wealth for the country? When did they get the knowledge to do that? Hakainde came and resolved the debt that they created, now they want to come and fix the debt what they destroyed, can they fix what they destroyed? Do not vote for someone just because they are your relative, reject them if they cannot move the country forward. Your life cannot change because your relative is an MP, your life will not change because your child is in public office. Why should we re-elect Hakainde Hichilema? Number one, NRPUP members were once in government, Hakainde has also been in government for five years so compare the work that the two have done. If one who has been in government before and comes back to ask for your vote, ask them what they did better than their friends,” said Vice-President Nalumango.
