STOP THE DOUBLE STANDARDS: IF YOU JUDGE DAVID MABUMBA BY HIS PAST, DO THE SAME FOR EVERYONE

Following the NRPUP rally in Mwense, social media has once again been flooded with old photos and a video of Hon. David Mabumba that went viral years ago. In my view, this is another example of selective politics and double standards.

If someone’s past is enough to discredit them today, then the same standard should apply to everyone. There are people currently serving in the Presidential Media Team whose past content has also attracted controversy. There are also social media influencers with a history of producing offensive or questionable content who are now part of the President’s campaign tour. Yet their old photos and videos are rarely shared with the same energy.

My point is simple: either judge everyone by the same standard or allow people to move on from their past. Selectively digging up old content to attack one person while remaining silent about others only exposes political bias.

Zambians deserve a campaign focused on ideas, policies, and leadership—not one driven by selective outrage and recycled social media content.
If you contest public office, expect to be held to a higher moral standard and rightly so. You can’t compare someone vying for public office to an influencer.
If you want your past to remain buried then avoid public office.
