Govt launches new Food and Nutrition policy
GOVERNMENT has launched a new Food and Nutrition Security Policy 2026 and National Stunting Reduction Strategy aimed at reducing stunting from the current 32 percent to 15 percent by 2030. Zambia’s current stunting levels stand at 32 percent, down from 35 percent in 2018, representing a three percent reduction. The Policy is a revision of a 2006 Nutrition Policy which will provide strategic direction on the programming and implementation of both nutrition sensitive and specific interventions. In a speech read on her behalf by Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, Vice-President Mutale Nalumango said to achieve this, the revised policy and strategy would focus on eliminating the triple burden of malnutrition, promoting local agricultural diversity among other things.
