Zambia Mourns Former Vice-President Dr. Guy Scott
Zambia is mourning the passing of former Vice-President Dr. Guy Scott, who died today at the age of 82, bringing to a close the life of one of the country’s most distinguished political leaders.
The Government has announced that Dr. Scott will be accorded a State Funeral in recognition of his dedicated service to the nation.
In a message of condolence, President Hakainde Hichilema expressed deep sorrow over Dr. Scott’s passing and extended his heartfelt condolences to his widow, Mrs. Charlotte Scott, his children, and the entire Scott family.
“During this moment of grief, we hold you in our thoughts and lift you up in our prayers,” President Hichilema said.
The President described Dr. Scott as a patriot who devoted his life to serving Zambia. He noted that Dr. Scott played a pivotal role in the country’s governance, serving as Vice-President before assuming the role of Acting President following the death of President Michael Sata in 2014.
President Hichilema said Dr. Scott’s leadership during that challenging period ensured a peaceful constitutional transition and reflected his unwavering commitment to democracy, constitutionalism and national stability.
In recognition of his distinguished service, the President directed that Dr. Scott be accorded a State Funeral and called on Zambians to honour his legacy by continuing to build a united, peaceful and prosperous nation guided by the values of service, unity and faith.
As tributes continue to pour in from across Zambia and beyond, Dr. Guy Scott is being remembered as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to governance, democracy and national unity have left a lasting mark on the country’s history.
