Yuyi is still Copperbelt Police Commissioner – PS

Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Lawrence Mwanza has dismissed speculation surrounding the leadership of the Zambia Police Service in the province, stating that Mwala Yuyi remains the Copperbelt police commissioner.

This follows recent social media reports that suggested that Mr. Yuyi had been removed from his position and transferred to the Zambia police headquarters in Lusaka.

Addressing the media in Ndola this morning, Mr. Mwanza said his office continues to work closely with Mr. Yuyi and the Zambia Police Service to maintain peace and security ahead of the August 13 election.

Mr. Mwanza says government has full confidence in the provincial police command, adding that security agencies remain on high alert to ensure the electoral process is conducted in a peaceful and orderly environment.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwanza says there is no room for electoral violence on the Copperbelt and revealed that authorities are monitoring intelligence reports on possible violent activities and have deployed officers to respond swiftly to any threats to public order.

Mr. mwanza has appealed to political parties, especially presidential campaign teams, to avoid roadshows in densely populated residential areas, as such activities increase the risk of clashes and make it difficult for police to adequately protect lives and property.
