‘I AM NOT WITHDRAWING’ — SIAMUNENE INSISTS HE WILL REMAIN ON PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT

New Focus Party President Richwell Siamunene has declared that he will not withdraw from the presidential race despite joining the People’s Pack coalition, whose presidential candidate is Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe, with Ms. Dorika Banda as running mate.
Mr. Siamunene explained that he will appear on the ballot after successfully filing his nomination papers and receiving clearance from the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
He said his association with Dr. M’membe will not affect his own presidential ambitions, stressing that it is ultimately up to Zambian voters to decide who they want to elect as President.
Mr. Siamunene stated that the coalition with the People’s Pack is aimed at promoting national unity and is in line with calls for the formation of a Government of National Unity.
Meanwhile, he has pledged to abolish presidential nomination fees if elected into office, arguing that the current K100,000 fee is too high and discourages individuals who wish to contest for the presidency.
