NKOMBO QUITS UPND, SAYS EVENTS LEADING TO HIS ATTACK SHOW THAT HE IS NOLONGER NEEDED

Garry Nkombo who joined UPND in 2002 from FDD has officially quit the ruling party.

In a letter seen by Zambian Eye and published here, Nkombo says events leading to the time he was violently attacked and others unpublished show that he is nolonger needed.

Nkombo who recently said he cannot force President Hakainde Hichilema to like him is running as an Independent candidate.

The fallout between him and the President has made the country speculate that it must be serious.

President Hichilema fired Nkombo as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development before he was also removed as Chairperson for Elections and Campaign.

Nkombo should also take self introspection, the biggest mistake he made was to refuse or abstain from voting for Bill 7. In politics, the value of an MP and a party member lies in the vote because without the vote, an MP or Party Member has no value. As a senior politician, Nkombo knows that it’s profitable to address a group 50 registered voters than addressing a mass rally of unregistered voters because they won’t add any value to your campaign. He can’t accuse UPND party of abandoning him when it’s him who abandoned and disappointed the party. It’s unacceptable to lose a Bill in Parliament when as a party, you have the needed numbers to pass the Bill. By refusing to vote with other UPND party MPs, Nkombo betrayed and embarrassed the Party and the President. He is now saying that it seems the party no longer needed him. But he forgets that it’s him who abandoned the party at such a crucial time of voting for Bill 7. Had some of the opposition MPs not voted for Bill 7, UPND could have lost Bill 7 just as PF had lost Bill 10. I therefore don’t agree with his allegations, because the time the party needed him most, he did not vote for Bill 7. Yes this time, the party may no longer need him because he already isolated himself from the party. If as an MP, you fail to support and vote for motions and Bills presented by your own party and president, then what can the party still need you for? It’s also difficult to believe and trust someone who pledges total allegiance to the Party and the President but refuses to support and vote for the Bills and Motions presented by the arty and the president you claim to support. It doesn’t add up to anything, it adds no value.
