UPND Livingstone aspirant commends residents for maintaining peaceful campaigns
UPND Livingstone Central Parliamentary candidate Gracious Mayangwa has commended residents for maintaining a peaceful election campaign.
In an interview Mayangwa said the city has so far recorded exemplary conduct ahead of the polls.
But Mayangwa noted with concern that some opposition cadres were removing posters of their opponents.
“The campaign in Livingstone has been peaceful so far. We have however, noted that some disgruntled opposition cadres are removing posters of their opponents, this is a serious crime, and it will not win anyone votes. Voters are watching how candidates and their supporters conduct themselves,” Mayangwa said.
“In 2021, Livingstone had at this time recorded a number of violent incidencies under the PF leaders, but we are greatful with the firm leadership of President Hichilema who has declared zero toralance to cadreism. No one needs to be beaten for belonging to a political party of there choice and we will uphold this directive and deliver a free, fair and violent free election for Livingstone District. However, we as UPND would like to earn some disgruntled individuals who have been removing opponents’ posters to desist. The law is not blind, any one found wanting will be prosecuted by the justice system which is blind to the colour, tribe, or political party one belongs to”.
He further urged all political players and supporters to continue upholding peace, tolerance, and respect for each other as the campaign progresses.
“I on behalf of UPND candidates, namely the Mayor Bright Hanakamba, Maramba Constituency candidate Yvonne Kabba and all council aspirants do extends appreciation to the Republican President Hakainde Hichilema for demonstrating good leadership and encouraging a peaceful election campaign across the country. I commend President Hichilema a.k.a Bally on behalf of all aspiring candidates under the UPND for taking Zambia to a new level of leadership. His call for order, respect, and unity during the campaign period is setting a standard second to none,” said Mayangwa.
“HH has given confidence to many Zambians that elections can be contested without fear or violence. We thank him for showing that Zambia can lead by example. We are a tourist capital and so far we have lived to that legacy. Many tourists who have visited us since the start of the campaign have indicated that the environment in the city does not show that there is an election and have encouraged others to visit Livingstone, saying it is a cradle of peace and love”.
