HOUTHIS PLEDGE SUPPORT TO IRAN, WARN OF POSSIBLE RED SEA ESCALATION

HOUTHIS PLEDGE SUPPORT TO IRAN, WARN OF POSSIBLE RED SEA ESCALATION

Yemen’s Houthi movement has declared its readiness to support Iran in a potential wider conflict, with a senior Houthi military official saying the group is prepared to act on orders from Tehran.

Mohammad Al-Atifi, a Houthi military figure, said the group’s forces are ready to “carry out any order issued by the leader of the Islamic Republic against the aggressor countries,” adding that the movement has “all options” available.

The statement comes amid reports that Iran has called on its regional allies to prepare for possible actions targeting the strategic Red Sea shipping route, including the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, in response to what the Houthis describe as attacks against Iran.

The development has raised concerns that the Red Sea could become a new front in the escalating regional tensions, threatening one of the world’s most important maritime trade corridors.

The Houthi movement, which has previously carried out attacks on commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea, says its actions are part of what it calls the “resistance front” against Iran’s adversaries.

Regional observers are now closely monitoring the situation as any disruption in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait could have major consequences for global shipping and energy markets.
