Mundubile Condemns Police Over Campaign Blockade, Govt Denies Shooting Claims

National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has called on the Zambia Police Service to carry out its duties professionally and in line with the Constitution.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Mundubile condemned the actions of police officers in Kalingalinga, where he and his running mate were prevented from holding a scheduled roadshow campaign.

He said the confrontation led to civilians being teargassed and alleged that an innocent 10-year-old girl was shot by a police officer during the incident.

Mr. Mundubile has since appealed to the police command to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that any officer found responsible is held accountable.
Meanwhile, the Government has disputed claims that a child was shot during the incident.

Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana however says no lives were lost, adding that police only discharged teargas canisters as part of a public order management operation.
