PUBLIC SERVANTS MUST TAKE THREATS AGAINST THEM SERIOUSLY – LEONARD HIKAUMBA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PUBLIC SERVANTS MUST TAKE THREATS AGAINST THEM SERIOUSLY – LEONARD HIKAUMBA
By Mr. Leonard Hikaumba, Vice President of MDC and former ZCTU President
I wish to warn all public service workers across Zambia to take recent threats against civil servants very seriously. Public servants are an integral part of the governance system and are mandated to serve the government of the day professionally, regardless of which political party is in power.
It is deeply concerning when a political leader threatens civil servants simply because they are supporting or working with the elected government. If someone can intimidate public workers before attaining the presidency, one must ask: what would happen if such a person were entrusted with the highest office in the land?
Zambians have not forgotten the period when many civil servants worked under fear. Public officers were harassed, assaulted and, in some instances, forcibly removed from their offices by political cadres. Those events undermined the professionalism, dignity and independence of the public service. Mr. Brian Mundubile was part of that administration, and citizens have every right to question whether the country should return to such an environment.
Support and vote for Mr. Mundubile only after carefully reflecting on the implications. Character matters in leadership
There is a well-known story about a scorpion and a frog. The scorpion asked the frog to carry it across a river. The frog hesitated, fearing it would be stung, but the scorpion assured it that it would not. Halfway across the river, the scorpion stung the frog. As both began to drown, the frog asked why. The scorpion replied, “It is my nature.”
The lesson is simple: people should never ignore consistent patterns of character and conduct. Leadership is ultimately a reflection of one’s values and treatment of others.
I therefore urge civil servants and all well-meaning Zambians to think carefully before casting their votes. In my view, the current government has restored greater dignity and respect to the public service and created a more professional working environment for many civil servants.
I call upon all peace-loving Zambians to support President Hakainde Hichilema in the elections scheduled for 13 August 2026 and to continue promoting democratic governance, respect for public institutions, and the rule of law.
Where is the Union? Sue Mundubile on behalf of the workers…
Don’t forget the forced RETIREMENT IN NATIONAL INTEREST Syndrome of the PF now in sheep’s skin. CAREFUL MY FELLOW ZAMBIANS
