CAF invites Zimbabwe, Southern African partners to bid for 2028 AFCON
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially invited Zimbabwe, alongside South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, to submit a joint bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after opening the bidding process for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the continental showpiece.
Zimbabwe is part of a COSAFA-backed four-nation expression of interest that aims to bring Africa’s premier football tournament back to Southern Africa for the first time since South Africa hosted the competition in 2013.
CAF said its member associations are now invited to submit formal bids under a framework developed with the support of independent technical, financial and legal experts to ensure a transparent and robust selection process.
The four-country proposal seeks to combine stadium infrastructure, transport networks and accommodation facilities across Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia to deliver a successful tournament.
CAF will evaluate all submissions before announcing the hosts for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 AFCON tournaments.
